María Bueno

María Bueno was born in Malaga, Spain in 1976. She was the apprentice of Christl Lidl, a Belgian artist whose work specializes in 3D images, and Teresa Nieto, a Spanish choreographer interested in using her body to explore space. Working with Lidl and Nieto, Bueno developed an affinity for representing space using images through the concept of "mise en abîme". Her work spans the mediums of drawing, painting, engraving, and sculpture. Since 2005, her exhibitions have been featured throughout Spain, including at Picasso’s Art Foundation and Contemporary Art Center (Málaga), MAV Art Festival, Isabel Segura Art Space and Rafael Pérez Hernando Art Gallery (Madrid), Olvera Art Space (Seville), La Vidriera Art Center (Santander), Women Art House (Zaragoza), and SWAG Art Festival (Barcelona). ? She has presented work at the most important International Art Manifestos, such as ARCO, KUNST and TORONTO Art Fairs, BJCEM Mediterranean Art Biennial, PARIS/PORTE DE VERSAILLES and LES NUIT BLANCHES Art Events. ? Bueno has won various awards for her work, including the FIRST PAINTING AWARD 2010 at Focus Abengoa International Painting Contest, the IAJ AWARD 2008 for an Artist’s Residency at NIAD (National Institute of Arts and Disabilities) in California, and the BCJEM AWARD 2007 for her participation in an artists’ think tank in Sicily, Italy. ? Her work has been featured in the New York Times, Metrópolis TV2, Masdearte Review, Méjico Revista de las Letras, and at the Málaga Film Festival 2016. ? Bueno continues to exhibit her work in galleries and museums, and conceive interdisciplinary art projects throughout Europe and the United States.
